If your dog demolishes treats in seconds and you are tired of rawhide and filler-stuffed chews, it is time to meet the yak chew.
What exactly is a yak chew?
Yak chews (also called Himalayan dog chews) come from a centuries-old recipe from the Himalayan region. They are made from just a few simple ingredients — yak and cow milk, a pinch of salt, and a squeeze of lime juice. The milk is curdled, pressed into blocks, and dried for weeks until it becomes a hard, long-lasting chew.
The result: a 100% natural, lactose-free, grain-free chew with no preservatives, no chemicals, and no artificial anything.
Why dogs (and owners) love them
- Long-lasting. These dense, hard chews keep most dogs busy far longer than a biscuit or soft treat.
- Fully digestible. Unlike rawhide, yak chews break down safely in your dog's stomach.
- Good for teeth. The chewing action naturally helps scrape away plaque.
- Low odour. No stink on your dog's breath — or your carpet.
The nub trick: do not throw away the last piece
When the chew gets small enough to fit whole in your dog's mouth, take it away — that little nub is a choking risk if swallowed whole. But do not toss it! Soak it in water for 5 minutes, microwave it for 45–60 seconds, and let it cool completely. It puffs up into a crunchy second treat. Nothing wasted.
Choosing the right size
Small and medium dogs do best with chews sized for their bite — our Himalayan Yak Chews for Small Dogs are made for them. Big power chewers? Go for the large-dog bags, or try the bacon flavour for picky chewers.
As with any chew, always supervise your dog and keep fresh water nearby. Browse the full range in our Dog Chews & Treats collection.
